Wenham has a population of 4,979 (2020 Census). It is governed by an Open Town Meeting, a Select Board with 5 members, and a Town Administrator appointed by the Select Board.

Wenham and Hamilton share the Hamilton-Wenham Regional School District, the Hamilton-Wenham Public Library, the Hamilton-Wenham Recreation Department, and the Hamilton/Wenham commuter rail station.
